SHORT RANGE ENSEMBLE FORECAST (SREF) VERIFICATION

The Short Range Ensemble Forecast (SREF) system was developed to provide a multi-regional model, short-range (0-3 days) ensemble prediction system to provide operationally relevant and useful guidance on the probability distribution of weather events.

This webpage provides information on operational SREF forecast skill
over CONUS in comparison to GEFS. Please use the links on the left to navigate to SREF verification statistics.

Additional Information:
The SREF system began running operationally in May 2001.The operational SREF system is currently run four times per day (0300, 0900, 1500 and 2100 UTC) at 16-km resolution with 26 ensemble members. Forecasts are output at 1-h intervals from F000 to F039, and then at 3-h intervals out to F087, in various output grids including 16-km (grid 132), 32-km (grid 221) and 40-km (grid 212) grids
