Abstract:
The Met Office implemented 3D-Var and the direct use of ATOVS radiances in 1999,
and a series of upgrades have lead to regular improvements since. By far the largest
effort has been the implementation in August 2002 of a new Unified Model, with
New Dynamics and improved parametrisations. These and selected other
developments are described.
Selected topics from current R&D plans will be described, including (if time allows):
Relocation, New supercomputer, Global 4D-Var implementation, Assimilation of
moisture cloud & ppn data, Convective scale NWP, Ensembles, EURO-THORPEX.
