NVIDIA Earth-2: Open Science Advances in using AI across the Earth System Modeling Stack

Abstract:
I will discuss select AI research and technology highlights from the past year's work by NVIDIA scientists and engineers working on the Earth-2 Initiative, which provides open software and research to the climate and weather ecosystem. Topics will span (i) autoregressive global and mesoscale weather forecasting; (ii) AI-assisted climate informatics via conditional diffusion foundation modeling towards steerable sampling; (iii) AI generative state estimation, (iv) atmosphere-ocean coupled subseasonal-to-climate autoregression; and (v) effects of adding hydrostatic constraints thereto.
