Recent updates on data assimilation systems in JMA

Abstract:
In Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the headquarters was reorganized and the Numerical Prediction Development Center (NPDC) was newly established in Oct. 2020. The Office of Numerical Prediction Modeling in the NPDC is developing three deterministic forecast systems for short-term weather prediction (global, mesoscale, and local forecasts) and their data assimilation systems (global, mesoscale, and local analysis based on hybrid 4DVar, 4DVar, and hybrid 3DVar, respectively). In this seminar, I will introduce these data assimilation systems and their ongoing development.
