Ensemble Generation for Models of Multi-Modal Systems

Abstract:
A series of ensemble experiments was performed with a
simple nonlinear channel model in order to investigate the
behavior of familiar ensemble generation techniques in a
strongly nonlinear high dimensional system. Our results are
consistent with the general idea that, in a case of a complex
system with a low-dimensional attracting set, the singular vectors
point off the attractor, while the bred vectors lie tangent to
the attractor. Effects of noise and model errors will be discussed.
