Abstract (including Motivation, Hypothesis and Method)
The new hybrid sigma/pressure vertical coordinate, non-hydrostatic Meso model is being tested for each of the six nested HiResWindow domains: 10-km Alaska (00Z), 8-km Western U.S. (06Z), 8-km Central U.S. (12Z), 8-km Eastern U.S. (18Z), 8-km Hawaii (00Z and 12Z) and 8-km Puerto Rico (06Z and 18Z)
MESO MODEL BASIC CHARACTERISTICS
  • Nonhydrostatic
  • Second order energy and enstrophy conserving spatial differencing
  • Forward-Backward/Adams-Bashforth time differencing
  • Arakawa E-grid
  • Hybrid sigma/pressure coordinate
  • Similar physics package to operational Eta
