Surface stress over the Pacific
Glenn H. White
This page presents a monthly mean climatology of surface stress over the Pacific based on COADS data and calculated by da Silva et al. (1994). The climatology is averaged over 1979-93. COADS data are ship reports; they are most abundant between 20N and 60N. Comparisons of COADS and reanalysis flux estimates suggest that a COADS-based climatology may have some value in the tropics and in the Southern Hemisphere north of 40S.
